EP 193 | Embrace The New

WITH ANDREA CRISP

In every area of life, you can be intentional about embracing what is to come by setting those intentions right now. And so when we do that, we are able to embody what it is that we desire right now, we can get in that state, and we can position ourselves to receive what it is that we want.

Hey, friend, are you ready to take courageous steps to create a life in business you love? Welcome to The Couragecast. I'm Andrea Crisp, mindset coach, author, and a multi passionate entrepreneur. Now I coach women across the globe who are ready to own their life and make a massive impact. Each week, I'll share conversations with amazing humans who've been willing to face their fear and pursue their purpose. I'll provide a blend of practical and spiritual advice to help you take brave steps in your own life and business.

Andrea Crisp 1:07
Hello, welcome to The Couragecast, can you believe we have made it through another year. This was a tough year, not gonna lie, it was probably a bit better than 2020, but it was still a tough one nonetheless, but we did it together. And I am so glad that we got to do the journey with one another. And it really makes a difference when you know that you're not doing things alone, and we have one another.

Andrea Crisp 1:35
So this being our very last podcast of the year of 2021, I thought I'd share with you a few things that I am personally going to be embracing in 2022. I am so excited for a new year. And of course, I want to leave you with some questions for reflection, as you start to say goodbye to 2021 and hello to the New Year. You know, this is usually the time of year, this week between Christmas and New Year's where I am the most introspective, I take time to journal my thoughts and, you know, really plan for what it is that I want to see happen in the New Year. It's kind of like that time where I'm, you know, looking back, what didn't work, what do I need to let go of, all of those things, you know, personally, professionally, in, in many, many ways. And then also, you know, really stepping into and embodying what it is that I truly desire for 2020 20, whatever it is 2022.

Andrea Crisp 2:41
And last year, I did the same thing. And I found it made such a huge difference to set myself up in that way to set intentions that were really, really clear and succinct. And I found that over the course of the year, I was able to truly manifest those things because I was intentional about doing it right now. And so I want to encourage you that as you're listening, maybe you want to take some notes, maybe want to jot a few things down. But we're going to be focusing on embracing what's ahead and being prepared for it. So whether that's emotionally, spiritually, within your relationships, in your financial life, physically, professionally, in every area of life, you can be intentional about embracing what is to come by setting those intentions right now. And so when we do that, we are able to embody what it is that we desire right now, we can get in that state, and we can position ourselves to receive what it is that we want.

Andrea Crisp 3:45
So let me ask you, have you taken the time out yet to set intentions for your life? Maybe you are, you know, in a place right now where you know exactly what you want. And you're like, "Yes, I have all these goals set." But maybe you're in a place where you are like, you know, "I've set goals in the past and I never accomplished them and like two weeks in, I totally forget about them." Well, here's the thing. You know, if you're not setting an intention alongside of a goal, then really, it's almost like, "Okay, I'm making this lofty promise to myself that I'm never gonna actually, you know, fulfill because you are not embodying what it is that you want, right now, and then working towards that particular thing. So really, what we want to do is we want to set an intention, and set a goal.

Andrea Crisp 4:39
Okay, so here's the thing. Setting an intention requires you to access a certain state of being, so being in the emotion of what it is that you desire. Okay, I've talked a lot about intention setting over the past few months, especially within my coaching groups. I've talked about it online, I've talked about it many different places, but it has been one of the biggest game changers for me, when it came to doing different things within my business relationally, making connections with people, it really, really made a difference, setting those intentions, and then getting really clear on what goals I want to achieve. And I've taken a look, even in my financial life, of saying, "Okay, well, this is a good goal, but what would be a better goal, and then would even be the best?" And so I can see where I can make these shifts along the way. But I'm allowing myself to embody that state of already having it and moving through those stages.

Andrea Crisp 5:45
So what is it that you want in your life? Okay, so here's a few things that I think are going to help you when you are setting your intention. So first of all, number one, you want to set an intention for how you want to feel when you have gotten to that place, when you have accomplished that goal, when you have received, what it is that you want in your life. So how are you going to embody that state, allow yourself to completely be in that emotion, then the second thing is set a goal that you can accomplish or achieve. And you want to make sure that it's measurable, you want to make sure that it's possible for you to do and challenging at the same time.

Andrea Crisp 6:38
Here's the next thing you want to do is you want to release the outcome. So this is a big thing, right? I think so often we're like, okay, now I just want to hold it so tightly, that you know, I absolutely know that I'm going to achieve this. And I'm going to make, you know, sure that I know exactly how I'm going to do it. And this is going to be the way, and you write down all these things, and then, you know, doesn't happen? Well, when we release the outcome of how we're going to get there, that is when God, universe is able to really bring to us how that is going to manifest. So setting the intention is important, setting the goal is equally as important. But then we have to release the how, okay?

Andrea Crisp 7:24
The fourth thing is listen to your inner guidance, tune in to your wisdom, to that God voice inside of you. That whisper that is really showing up in your life, telling you what steps to take when to take them. Because when we're thinking, "Oh, I need to be in this hustle mentality, or I need to do it now now now", oftentimes, we're not really paying attention to when we should be doing it, and what steps we should be taking. So listening to your inner guidance is really important.

Andrea Crisp 7:59
And then the last thing is make room for it to happen. Uh, being in a state of allowing, is just being, "Okay, I'm open, I'm open to it happening, I'm ready to receive it. I'm here, I'm available for that to happen." And you can do this for every area of your life, right? You can start with the emotional part of your life. So maybe you're in a place right now, where you really want healing or restoration, you can do it around that, spiritually, you know, we always can grow, focus on expansion, or deepening our faith. Relationally, you can ask yourself, you know, are there relationships that you want? Or how do you want to deepen them? Or grow in them? Or how do you want to show up differently in your relationships? Financially, like I mentioned before, you can set goals for your income, but also, you know, releasing debt, increasing savings. And there's so many ways you can do that. Physically, how do you want to feel in your body? Do you want to have more movement and increase activity? What would that look like? How would you feel, you know, in that state, and maybe even setting a specific goal or challenge for movement in your life? And then of course, professionally, you know, where do you want to be a year from now? Do you want to make a change? Is there something that really needs to shift in your life? Or do you want to grow in a particular area and you know, become an authority in something or an expert in something?

Andrea Crisp 9:40
And of course, last but not least, and I didn't mention this before, but you know, have fun? Like, what do you want to do for fun? Really taking that time to enjoy your life is so important, and maybe you've not been spending a whole lot of time thinking about how it is that you want to enjoy your life, maybe that's travel or adventure or doing something new, taking up a new hobby or just really allowing yourself to be in that place of ease and flow within your life. So, in every area of your life, you can set a goal and intention. And then just take that time to release the outcome and listen to your inner wisdom and guidance, and make room to allow it to happen. And I know that when you do that, when you take that time and set aside that time to really allow yourself to truly set an intention for what it is that you desire, you're gonna find that you're able to manifest something really, really spectacular in the New Year, and embrace that future version of yourself right now.

Andrea Crisp 10:52

EP 192 | What To Release

WITH ANDREA CRISP

Like in order to embrace what is coming this New Year, full of possibility for you, you have to let go of what you’re holding on to now. I’m saying this as much to you, as I’m saying it to myself that I need to open that box today. And I need to allow myself to step into the new.

Is there something in your life that you are holding on to that is no longer serving you? Now is the time to release anything that you no longer need. Whether that is a relationship, whether that's material possessions, or even an idea, or an opportunity that is no longer aligned with your vision. Today on the podcast, we're talking about how you can start to release those things from your life to make way for the new.

Andrea Crisp 0:31

Hello there, welcome to the Couragecast! My name is Andrea Crisp, and I'm your host. And I want to thank you for being here, just taking the time to hang out with me. And I'm just so glad that we have gotten to do the journey together over the past year. And can you believe that we are in the last two weeks of 2021. Like it's actually blowing my mind. I'm thinking about it right now, this week is Christmas. And it's like one of my favorite times of the year. Last year was really strange because we had a huge outbreak of the pandemic right around Christmas time, so there was not a lot of festivities where I was, and so this year is a bit different. You know, we're still not completely out of the woods, but things are definitely looking brighter, and a bit more cheery around here. So I'm excited to actually take a little bit of time to rest and enjoy my friends and family over the Christmas holidays, and just to get outside and play in the snow. Because you know, we've got tons of snow here in northern Ontario, I don't even checked out my Instagram account, I post a lot about taking walks and being out with my puppy, Coffee Crisp, and It's basically like a winter wonderland. If you've never checked out my Instagram, you can find me at @andreacrispcoach, you can also find the podcast at @the.couragecast.

Andrea Crisp 2:36
So with all of that, you know, just talking about the weather and the cold. You know, one thing that I don't like is that it's freezing cold. In fact, while I'm recording this, it is like probably minus 15 degrees Celsius, that's really cold. So cold that I have to plug in my car. And our days are really short. So it can be you know, sometimes a little bit gloomy, you know. And the other day, I went out to start my car, and it wouldn't start, which is no big surprise here. But I have been plugging it in for the past few weeks. And even with that, I know you're thinking, okay, plug in, how do you plug in a car? Well, I have this thing under my hood, which allows me to actually plug in my car so that it actually always has some sort of power going to it. But anyways, my car is a bit older, and I need as much power going to it as possible, and especially in the winter, so I had plugged it in. But even with that it did not start. Now when I first bought my car, back in like 2003, okay, yeah, 17 years old, it, you know, sat in the garage at the townhouse that I lived in. And, you know, it was, you know, one of those amazing brand new cars, I was so excited about it. And I loved it, it was like, had all the bells and whistles and everything. But you know, 17 years later, it's a little bit of a different story. And the reason why I wanted to share with you a little bit about my car situation, there is a reason, is that I have found that so often we do not let go of those things that are keeping us in the past in order to embrace what is coming in the future. And the reason why I'm thinking about this in particular today is because this morning, I was actually on Instagram and I was taking a look at some of the friends that I know in the Mastermind I'm in and I came across this one particular story, and one of the girls was posting about a brand new car that she just purchased and I was like, "Ah! Would that be amazing to purchase a brand new car!"

Andrea Crisp 5:01
But what was really cool was that she was sharing a story about her old car, and how her old car had gotten her through so many things in her life. And it was kind of a rite of passage for her, actually, when she left a marriage, and she was, you know, venturing out on her own, it was like the first thing she had owned herself. And then she has just bought a brand new car. And it was almost like this upgrade or uplevel, to the new thing in her life. And as I was reading the posts, I was really struck, you know, by that, because I'm thinking about, you know, wow, like, I'm still holding on to some things in the past, not yet embracing those things in the future. And for years, I felt like I had to earn my way to success. And that meant that anything that I bought, or anything that I that I had in my life, was something that I had to work for, I had to hustle for, whether it was in my business, or whether it was in other ways. And if I didn't put in the time and effort, then I didn't deserve to have it.

Andrea Crisp 6:13
Now, that's an old mentality and an old story, that I have been really actively shifting in my life, but maybe you can relate to that maybe you're in a place in your life right now, where you are still holding on to those old stories, you're still holding on to those old things, those old ways of being those old ways of living, because it's familiar, it's comfortable. And it's the old narrative. And maybe you just think that's what you deserve. And that mentality kept me in the same place, year after year after year, never really making, you know, shifts in my life that were that big, they were just more incremental, little shifts, which is great. You know, making small shifts in life is really good. But when you want to make significant strides in your life, you have to make bigger adjustments. And just a few weeks ago, I was chatting with a good friend, Vanessa, and she was challenging me to, you know, take a bigger step financially in my life. And I was, you know, talking to her about, you know, what would that look like? And she asked me, "You know, was there something that you could buy?" And immediately, I knew what that was, No, it wasn't a car, even though maybe you're thinking, you know, although I probably do need one. But it was an iPhone. And I knew that this is something that I've been holding off purchasing, because I have an iPhone, and it works. And even though the battery is always going dead really quickly. And you know, sometimes when I'm doing things live on Instagram, I have to wonder if it's going to just go dead on me. Like, you know, all these things, you know, that happens with an older iPhone. And here's the thing about that:

Andrea Crisp 8:00
Back, I don't know, five years ago or so, I had bought a brand new iPhone, I was at a wedding out the middle of nowhere, and I had my iPhone in my back pocket. And I went into one of those porta potties, and my phone dropped in the Porta Potti. Of course, I never retrieved it. But at the time, I really didn't have the money to afford to buy a new one. So my mom decided that she would help me out and she bought me a new iPhone. Well, there was a lot of shame around that, there was a lot of, you know, guilt that I felt about having lost an iPhone, that was really expensive. And now you know, I've had another one that's basically paid for. So I did my best to, you know, preserve that iPhone for years and years and years. And then when it came time to buy myself another one, my mom was upgrading her iPhone. So I said, Well, I'll just take your old iPhone because it's newer than mine. And I upgraded to hers, which was actually hand me down. And I've had that iPhone for a few years. Because it was great. It was you know, free. And it kept me on a really low plan.

Andrea Crisp 9:08
But here's the thing. You know, when I really take a look at why I haven't bought a new iPhone, it's more about you know, I wonder, do I deserve to have something new? Do I deserve to have that good thing in my life? And, and how often do we do that? You know, even though we need things, even though we feel like you know, things would help us in our lives and make things easier. You know, we feel as though, "Okay, well, I'll just get by with this older thing, or I'll just kind of make it through with what I have now or I'll just make do, right?" And we live in this place of not believing like we deserve something, and so we don't allow ourselves to have it. So after this conversation with Vanessa, I made the decision, "Okay. Hey, I am going to go ahead, and I am going to buy a new iPhone 12." And so I got on the phone and I called around to price out the twelves. And as you know, things would have it, I couldn't get my hands on a 12. And I was thinking, "Okay, do I go love it," you know, the old story right going backwards. And the girl was like, "Well, we have the 13, which is the brand new phone." And I ended up going ahead and purchasing a an iPhone 13 Promax. It was in the blue color that I wanted. And it was the, you know, exact model that I was looking for. But it was a really, really tough step for me to take.

Andrea Crisp 10:42
And I knew I needed to share this with you, because maybe you're in your life right now where you're thinking, "You know, I really do need to do something for myself, I need to step into that place, but I'm holding on, I'm holding on to the old thing." So, you know, the story just keeps going, I get the phone in the mail. And if you can believe it, it's been sitting in the box, since I got it. I still, even though I'm recording this episode right now, have not opened the box. It is sitting there. And when I was on Instagram this morning, and I was listening to the story of this girl about, you know, telling about her new car, I was thinking to myself, like, "Woah, why haven't you open that box, like, you know, you took the step, you bought the phone. And now you're sitting here with a brand new phone in a box. And you're not opening it."

Andrea Crisp 11:43
And it was such a realization for me of holding on to things that are not serving us anymore. And as we approach a new year, I want to encourage you encourage myself to let those things go. Whether it's an old relationship, whether it's an old way of living, of being, whether it's, you know, a job that you've hated for ever and ever and ever, and you just are doing it because you're doing it, and you don't really want to be doing it or it's a material possession that you know needs to have an upgrade, like a car or a phone.

Andrea Crisp 12:28
Like in order to embrace what is coming this New Year, full of possibility for you, you have to let go of what you're holding on to now. I'm saying this as much to you, as I'm saying it to myself that I need to open that box today. And I need to allow myself to step into the new. And although it's a little silly example, it highlighted the importance that I felt I needed to share with you. And sometimes it's those little things that make the biggest difference.

Andrea Crisp 13:10
So let me ask you, how are you preparing to step into the New Year? What do you need to release in your life? You know, next week is going to be our last week of the podcast in 2021. I'm going to follow this episode up with how we can step into the new, and embodying that future version of ourselves right now, like right as we speak, and how do we start planning and preparing for 2022. But that means we need to let go of what was, so as you're preparing to go into this week of Christmas with your friends and family. You know, maybe it's an old habit, an old way of being, maybe it's you know, being defensive around your family or whatever it is. Whatever it is that you need to release, I just encourage you to to really consider that. And before we go today, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. And of course I will be back next week dropping our last episode of the year, but I'm sending you so much love. And until next time. Remember, you have everything you need to live bravely.
