Courageous

EP 197 | Being Courageous

WITH ANDREA CRISP

What is the next step of courage that you need to take? Because there’s no magic sauce when it comes to being courageous. You just have to get out there and do the damn thing. And you may fail. You may be rejected. But you also may be amazing.

About This Episode:

At the end of every podcast episode for nearly 200 episodes I have always ended with, "Until next time you have everything you need to live bravely." Today on the podcast I'm going to tell you the story behind why I chose that as my closing remarks for the last four years and 197 episodes.

In the last episode of the series Becoming Your Future Self, we are talking about how sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is to take the first step.

At the end of every podcast, for nearly 200 episodes, I've always ended with, "Until next time, you have everything you need to live bravely." Today on the podcast, I'm going to tell you the story behind why I chose that as my closing remarks for the last four years, and the last 197 episodes.

Andrea Crisp 0:24
Hey, friend, are you ready to take courageous steps to create a life and business you love. Welcome to The Couragecast. I'm Andrea Crisp, mindset coach, author, and a multi passionate entrepreneur. For years, I was afraid to allow myself to shine, that was until I discovered that I could step into my own power, shift my mindset, and take ownership of my own destiny. Now I coach women across the globe who are ready to own their life, and make a massive impact. Each week, I'll share conversations with amazing humans, who've been willing to face their fear, and pursue their purpose. I'll provide a blend of practical and spiritual advice to help you take brave steps in your own life and business.

Andrea Crisp 1:04
Hello, my friend, my name is Andrea. Welcome to The Couragecast. I'm your host, and I'm going to start this podcast with telling you that you already have everything you need to live bravely. I know that's how I end, every single podcast. But here's the thing. Taking brave steps, really does take a lot of courage. And it's risky. Like not gonna lie requires a little bit of know how, but a lot of blind faith that things are going to turn out in the end.

Andrea Crisp 1:34
And when I first started the podcast over four years ago, I almost didn't start, and it actually took me an entire year to muster up the courage to record my first episode. I still remember being at my computer, trying to come up with a catchy title for the show, the name of the podcast, and wondering what I could ever possibly talk about over and over and over again, that I wouldn't get bored of. And I knew it was courage. And I thought that's exactly what women need to hear, is how can we take those brave steps in our lives. And when I really leaned into that, and knew that, you know what, yeah, that's that's the thing. Like, at the end of the day, it's taking the steps, right, it's actually doing the thing. And I knew if I needed to hear it, they're probably others did as well.

Andrea Crisp 2:24
So I started exploring names for the podcast. I enlisted some of my good friends who were also part of a Mastermind that I was in, some of the smartest women I know, actually. And one of them came up with the name for the podcast. And the moment I heard it, it's stuck. The Couragecast, empowering women to live bravely. But I have to tell you, in the past four years, I haven't always been brave, haven't always felt brave. In fact, there have been so many times when I hid for fear of failure, rejection, not wanting to be left out, left behind, times where I didn't want to share my truth because I was too afraid that I would be abandoned, that maybe I'd be left hanging. And in all of that time, I kept coming back to the phrase that I close the show with every single week. And that is you have everything you need to live bravely.

Andrea Crisp 3:22
So when I talk about things on the podcast, when I share who I am, when I share my story, that's what I'm really leaning into, is that part of me that knows beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I already have everything I need to look bravely. It is going to hurt sometimes, and it's going to be painful. And I remember talking, not that long ago, probably about a year ago, about my spiritual deconstruction. And at that time, I leaned into the courage and needed to be both honest and forthright about why I was making a huge pivot from being a faith-based, life purpose coach to becoming a confidence and mindset coach. And in doing so I started exploring all sorts of different ways of living, and kind of was a big huge shift away from the faith-based principles. That was really scary. And I had to lean into who I was unbecoming, and who I was becoming in the process.

Andrea Crisp 4:29
And I found myself, during this past four years, at a point in my life financially, where I just was having a lot of trouble making my business work. And during that time, I relied again on that phrase, "You have everything you need to live bravely, Andrea", and it gave me the courage to keep going, and also the courage to tell my story. To be honest and forthright. The things don't always turn out the way we thought we they would, and that you just can keep moving forward.

Andrea Crisp 5:02
But honestly, when I was telling those stories, there was a fear there that people might stop listening, I would not be taken seriously anymore. And then, of course, there was that time that I shared on the podcast about heartbreak that I had experienced. And that spiraled me back into anxiety and depression. And I knew that I had to access that bravery once again, to face the truth about why it had happened, how I had played a part of it, and why it was attracting what I didn't want. Courage for me, meant coming to the end of myself, telling my truth, unbecoming who I had been for over 40 years, being honest with my story, with my life, and with who I am, both personally, and who you know, here on the podcast, And was it scary? Yeah, yeah, it definitely was. Every week, I wanted to run and hide. But I kept going. And over the past four years, there have been so many other stories of women that I have shared here on the podcast, running the race, overcoming limitations, barriers, becoming amazing entrepreneurs, coaches, athletes. I think back at the stories that they have told me, and how many times I have borrowed their courage, when I didn't have any of my own to access. Because here's the thing about courage, it multiplies, it expands. Whenever you use it, there is always more of it left in the reserves. And if you feel like you've come to the end of what you have, you can always borrow someone else's until it starts flowing in your life again.

Andrea Crisp 7:03
Now, this year, 2022. I believe that I'm going to be more courageous than I've ever been. That scares the shit out of me and just even say it. But what about you? How are you going to live more bravely in your own life? Is your business you're going to start? Are you going to finally take that step? Believe in yourself enough to actually do it? You gonna launch a podcast, put your own story and stamp out into the world? Are you going to write everything that you have been wanting to share with the world into a book, self publish or publish it? Or share a song that you've written or a painting you've painted with the world? What is the next step of courage that you need to take? Because there's no magic sauce when it comes to being courageous. You just have to get out there and do the damn thing. And you may fail. You may be rejected. But you also may be amazing. And you might just launch into the stratosphere. That be pretty cool, right? Being courageous is going to overflow into every single area of your life. And this week, I've asked my friend, Niki Ferguson, money mindset coach, to chat with us about how we can be courageous when it comes to money.

Niki Ferguson 8:32
Hi, it's Niki, money and mindset coach, back with your last Money Minute. Today, let's talk about being courageous with our money. If you want to start being courageous with your money, you want to surrender and release some control. Managing your finances isn't about keeping a tight grip and not letting anything go. You don't want to stockpile your money, swim around in it like Scrooge McDuck. Sometimes we have to let the money out to play and trust that it will come back to us tenfold. Of course, still be mindful and conscious of what you're spending on, but allow yourself to experience abundance and invest in yourself. This may mean taking a scary leap to hire a coach, or join a mastermind because you know in your heart of hearts, it's going to improve your life. This could also be buying boots you've been eyeing because you've already embodied the woman who wears them. You are ready to step into those physical shoes. Whether it's investing in yourself and your business, or treating yourself, it's okay to let go of the tight grip on money. And when you're not spending like this all the time, it makes it feel even more special and magical when it does happen, and you can really enjoy it.

Andrea Crisp 9:51
Thanks Niki for joining us again. I've loved having Niki on the past four episodes sharing she has amazing podcast called Wildly Worthy, and you should check that out. And she's also such a superb money mindset coach.

Andrea Crisp 10:10
So friends, the next step you need to take may be one that requires a significant investment into your life, which is why we needed to talk about money, right? And that can be scary, but the payoff can be even more significant than what you've put in. And I know, and you know that this is your year. I keep saying that. I'm gonna keep on saying that. But I honestly truly believe it. It's your year to be expansive, to be magnetic, to be confident, and to be courageous. So what is your next step? How are you going to invest more fully into your own life, that is going to require you to take some action, writing an email, inviting someone to a conversation, starting the research process for something that you've always wanted to do. One step will lead to the next, which will lead to the next, which will lead to the next. And every step you take, you're going to pull from the courage you've had from the step before.

Andrea Crisp 11:23
