Build a Soul-Aligned Business
WITHOUT OVEREXTENDING YOURSELF
There is a version of success that asks you to be constantly available, constantly visible, and constantly producing. It can look impressive from the outside. But for many intuitive women, spiritual entrepreneurs, and heart-led leaders, it comes with a quiet cost: disconnection from yourself.
In this episode of the Soul Aligned Podcast, Andrea Crisp explores the difference between healthy expansion and overextension. This is an invitation to build your business, leadership, and life in a way that supports your nervous system, honours your capacity, and allows your work to come from desire rather than desperation.
EXPANSION VS OVEREXTENSION
Growth can feel uncomfortable. It may ask you to release an old identity, try something new, be seen in a different way, or let go of timelines that no longer fit. That kind of stretch can be part of genuine expansion.
But expansion is not the same as depletion.
“There’s a big difference. And that difference can change the way we work, change the way we create, and about what really matters most to us.”
Overextension often comes with a different energy. It can sound like: I have to do more. I have to keep up. I have to show up exactly the way someone else says I should. It can lead to overworking, overthinking, and abandoning the very needs that make sustainable leadership possible.
A QUESTION FOR NEXT DECISION
Before saying yes, creating the next piece of content, or adding another thing to your calendar, pause and ask:
Does this expand me, or does this overextend me?
The answer may not always be immediately clear. But your body, your energy, and your level of resentment or aliveness can offer useful information.
CREATE FROM DESIRE
Urgency has a way of making everything feel important. You may find yourself thinking you need to send the email, record the podcast, post the video, or launch the offer immediately. And sometimes action is needed. But when the energy beneath the action is desperation, your audience can often feel the difference.
“When I’m feeling that urgency… that’s what I’m creating out of a place of desperation.”
Desire-led creation is not about waiting until everything feels perfect. It is about returning to what feels meaningful, nourishing, and alive before you create. It is about allowing your work to carry your actual heart—not simply what you think people want to see.
“Do I actually want to create this? And what feels alive in me?”
This is embodiment in practice. Rather than outsourcing every decision to an external strategy, you begin to include your own body, intuition, and capacity in the conversation.
AUTHENTIC VISIBILITY
You do not need to be the loudest person online to be impactful. Your visibility can take the form of long-form writing, thoughtful conversations, audio, teaching, intimate spaces, or artful content that gives people room to feel something.
“People can tell if it’s very performative… versus actually sharing a story and sharing who you are.”
Relational leadership is not built through performance. It is built through presence, truth, and the willingness to let your work sound like you.
HOW HUMAN DESIGN CAN SUPPORT ALIGNED LEADERSHIP
Human Design can be a supportive tool for understanding how you are uniquely designed to make decisions, manage your energy, create, relate, and lead. It is not a rigid rulebook. It is an experiment—an invitation to become more curious about what works for you.
“It’s really about experimenting with how does this work for me?”
For Andrea, understanding her own design brought language to a natural rhythm: periods of pulling back to create and integrate, followed by sharing what had emerged. Your own rhythm may look different. The value is not in copying someone else’s blueprint; it is in understanding and trusting your own.
A Soul Aligned Reading can help you explore your Human Design chart through the lens of nervous system regulation, intuition, embodiment, visibility, work, and sustainable success.
BUILD A BUSINESS THAT SUPPORTS YOUR LIFE
The goal is not to avoid all discomfort. The goal is to stop confusing self-abandonment with ambition.
You are allowed to want an impactful business and a life that has room for your family, rest, relationships, creativity, and inner world. You are allowed to be successful without making depletion your proof of commitment.
“You get to do life. And you get to do business in a way that feels really, really good for you.”
SOUL REFLECTION
Where in your life or business are you being asked to expand—and where might you be overextending yourself because you believe you have to?

Today, I want to talk about what it looks like to build something that feels more like you, that not only supports you, but actually helps you make a bigger impact in the world.
And so often we are bombarded with people on social media, online, on podcasts telling us what we need to do to grow, to build an empire. And that usually means more effort, more availability. more pushing.
And yes, while all of that can absolutely create success in your life, when you are creating success and you do want to make an impact, it should not require you to have to abandon who you are in the process.
So lately, I've been asking myself a question. Am I creating from a place of expansion?
Or am I just overextending myself? And there's a big difference.
And that difference can change the way we work, change the way we create, and about what really matters most to us.
So in this episode today, we're going to talk about the difference between that expansion and overextension, and how you can create from desire instead of desperation. and how human design can help you understand the way you are uniquely designed to work and create in the world.
Welcome to the Soul Aligned Podcast. My name is Andrea Crisp. I'm a coach, author, and guide, and I support intuitive women in reconnecting with their inner knowing so they can live, lead, and create from a place of deep soul alignment. My own path has been one of unraveling, releasing old identities, healing patterns, and learning to trust. the wisdom within. This space is an invitation to return to yourself to explore the inner work, the nervous system, and the energetic shifts that allow your life to unfold with more ease, clarity, and truth. Take a breath and let's begin.
Hey there, welcome to the podcast. I'm so glad that you're joining me today. It's crazy that it's the end of the summer already and we're almost into September and I've been thinking about how I have been doing life and how I've been doing business and how many things have been coming up for me. And so I want to share from that place today, I want to share with you what has been coming up and what it is that I feel like I'm moving into, but what I think will really help you as well.
So I want to talk a lot about the difference between overextending yourself and really creating capacity in your life and allowing for expansion. Now, I've spent the better part of this year actually creating room and expansion in my own life to see things happen.
And it hasn't been a very linear path. It's been a lot of twists and turns, a lot of things that are happening along the way. But one of the things that I've noticed is that I have consistently come up against the thought that I need to do more, that I need to put more effort in, that I need to show up in a certain way, that I need to participate in challenges, that I have to do things the way the gurus are all saying to do it. Now, there's nothing wrong with marketing. There's nothing wrong with showing up in business in a certain way. But one of the things that has really, really been coming back to me is that I don't have to do it the way that everyone is telling me to do it. And friend, you don't either. You don't have to overextend, push, hustle, do more constantly just so that you can create success in your business.
In fact, there is a better way. And really, that is about actually creating expansion in yourself, creating more room, creating that capacity for more.
Now, yes, that does mean a bit of stretching. It does actually mean that you're going to feel a little bit of discomfort at times because that means releasing. the old identities that no longer serve you. That means actually letting go of the things that you thought were going to get you where you needed to go. That means letting go of a timeline of showing up in a certain way of doing things that maybe you thought you needed to do, or that a coach told you to do. Because in order to actually create a ripple effect, really, really genuinely make an impact in the world.
It means that you have to show up. fully as yourself and allow yourself to continue to grow and to continue to expand to hold more. So I've been asking myself a lot lately, does this expand me or does this overextend me? And when I'm asking myself that question, I'm really coming back to the heart of the matter. Like, is this for my good or is this just because I feel like I need to?
So the first question that I want to ask you is, Is this overextending you? Are you overworking?
Are you overthinking the process? Or is this creating expansion,
a healthy expansion in your life? Now, the second thing that I wanted to talk about is creating from a place of desire and not just from desperation. Now, I am somebody who is creative by nature.
I like to play the piano and sing. I like to record podcasts and create meditations and do all sorts of different things. I've often found myself thinking that, oh, I just have to sit down and I have to record something or I have to get this email written or I need to do something. So immediately when I'm feeling that urgency, that place of like, oh, I've got to get something done, all of a sudden I'm thinking, oh, I need to do something. And that's what I'm creating out of a place of desperation and not just sitting back and going, ah. I really enjoy this. This feels so good. So even today, as I was thinking about recording the podcast, I was thinking about what I wanted to share and some notes that I had. And I was starting to feel that urgency energy. I was starting to feel that desperation energy.
I was starting to feel like, okay, Andrea, it's Friday. You need to get this recorded. You need to get this done. And then I was like, yeah, but then the energy that's coming through is going to be you need to versus sitting back and going, does this actually feel like it's fueling me or it's giving life or bringing life to someone else? And when you're creating in your business and when you're putting out something that you really want people to receive, you want it to be in a way that allows them to understand and know the fullness of your heart.
Now, I was working with a voice student yesterday who's just about to do a showcase, a talent show. One of the things that I was sharing with him about his performance, I said, you know what, people can tell if it's like very performative and if you're showing. just what you have versus actually sharing a story and sharing who you are.
People can read through that so quickly and people respond. especially when it's music, to someone who tells them a story and who allows them to connect into that place and to feel something, to genuinely feel something. So when you are building your business and when you're creating from a place that you want people to truly be able to get and understand what it is that you are sharing with them, it has to come from a place that is really authentic, is vulnerable, is transparent, and is showing the part of you that's expanding. That's showing the part of you that is saying, this is all of me and I'm offering all of me to you and not just what we think people want to see.
Now, a good question to ask yourself when you're thinking about, am I creating from desire or am I creating from expectation? It is like, do I actually want to create this? And what feels alive in me? What feels alive for me? What is it that I really want to share with the world?
What would feel meaningful? What would feel nourishing? And for me lately, it has been about saying, you know what? You don't have to do things the way everyone tells you to do it. And I just even shared that on threads the other day. I just put a thread out. One of my former clients came back to me. It was like, thank you so much for sharing that because it really helped me to say, you know what? I want to do the same thing. I want to kind of throw away the playbook and just do things on my own terms.
And we get to do life. And we get to do business in a way that feels really, really good for us. Now, the one thing that I love about human design is it really helps us to see the unique way that we are designed and how we can create and how we can work in a way that actually serves us and serves others. Because... No design is replicated somewhere else.
We all have very, very unique traits that help us to know what exactly it is that we need to do in our own lives to make decisions, to show up, to be in community,
to manage our energy, to create, to call in abundance, to manifest all of those things.
We all have a unique... blueprint that allows us to know how we can move. in that energy. Now, just because we have the blueprint doesn't mean we have to follow it to a T. It's really about experimenting with how does this work for me. But I know when I first started leaning into my own human design, it helped me to know, oh, okay, like there's going to be timeswhen I'm going to need to pull back and I'm going to need to get alone and be creative and just kind of be in my little cave and do the things that I need to do. And then I'm going to share it with the world. And then I'm going to put it out and trust that the people that are in my community are going to see my own giftings and are going to be like, yes, we love what you're doing. And that is exactly how a 2-4 profile works because that's what my profile is.
But if I'm trying to do things in a way that maybe one of my peers is doing or someone else that I see is having a lot of success and I think, oh, like I've got to constantly be face to camera and talking on social media, which I actually don't love doing. It doesn't actually always feel good for me to do that. I'm a long form content kind of girl. I like to create things. I like to talk. I like to share my heart. I like to be in the moment and respond in a way that feels like totally like me. So if I'm just trying to curate something or make it happen, you're going to feel it. You're going to notice. I'm going to feel it and it's going to deplete and drain me. So I definitely, definitely do not want to be doing that. So when you understand what your human design authority, your profile, how your strategy works to help you to move throughout your business and move in life. Ah, it is a complete game changer. And one of the things that I have been doing lately is called a human design reading. Now, if you've never had a human design reading, it's really cool because it's Really hearing from someone else's perspective what your human design chart looks like. And especially if you're not really familiar with human design, it can feel a bit overwhelming and daunting to look at a chart and go, I'm not even really sure what to do with this. So I have been doing these beautiful soul aligned human design readings.
And they have actually been so fun because we're diving into things like how does your energy work?
How can you regulate? your nervous system for your specific design? How is it that you can create
in a way that serves you? How is it that you can show up in your business in a way that serves you?
How is it that you can live your life in a way that fuels you and energizes you and allows you to create a foundation for something really, really beautiful? And I have been working with clients going over their human design. I look at the chart. I share some insights.
I actually... record them in an audio file. And then we jump on a call.
And we talk about those things. And I give you some things to integrate so that you can take away what it is that has come up for you. And you can start implementing those things incrementally as you go. Because if you know anything about human design, you know, it's an experiment. So you're always going to be experimenting with how it works, how the energy works for you specifically. But I help you to really get a little bit of a better understanding of how you work and how you can create in your life and how you can do it in a way that shows up expanded and shows up in a way that feels totally like you versus pushing, striving, making things happen, hoping, just like muscling your way through.
I want to leave you with this. What would it look like for you to build something to create an impact in your world, in your community, in your life, in a way that actually feels like you, in a way that feels in alignment with who you are, that doesn't require you to constantly self-abandon, to show up in a way that actually doesn't feel like you at all, causes you to have to overwork, not the version of success that requires you to overwork. to overextend to abandon your needs your family what you're doing what you're calling in but something that's rooted in who you are that's rooted in what you desire, that's rooted in a way that you want to live your own life, and that supports you, allows you to call in and attract what it is that you want in your life. And if you're ready to understand a little bit more about
yourself, and you would like to actually do a human design reading with me, I would love to do one
with you. So I'm actually going to put in the show notes where you can book your human design
reading with me. And all you need to do is put your date of birth, where you were born and the time
you were born. And I will go ahead and pull that chart for you. And I will create a document,
I will create an audio file, and then we'll jump on a call to really talk about it. You can ask all
sorts of questions on, you know, how it is that you can create more, how you can regulate your
nervous system, how you can tap into your intuition in a way that really, really serves you and
helps. you to create what it is that you want in your life. So you can find all of that located in
the show notes today.
